Multi-carrier shipping means that your webshop automatically selects the most suitable carrier per order based on preset rules, destination country, weight, and package type. In Magento 2, this is made possible via carrier extensions that integrate with the native checkout and the order fulfillment process. The result is lower shipping costs, shorter delivery times, and less manual work in the warehouse.
Younify integrated both PostNL (parcel and mailbox) and DPD as parallel carriers into Maxifleur’s Magento 2 checkout. Based on configured rules, Magento automatically selects the cheapest or fastest carrier for each individual order without manual intervention.
The carrier selection logic was refined based on destination, weight, and package dimensions. Subsequently, both carriers were updated to the latest API versions and shipping label automation was integrated: labels are generated directly from the Magento Admin panel and sent to the correct printer without the need for external portals. For specific product categories, return labels are automatically included.
The multi-carrier setup lowered the average shipping costs per order because each shipment is automatically routed to the carrier with the most favorable rate for that destination. The elimination of manual label generation significantly reduced the processing time per order, providing a direct time saving for the warehouse team.
